SCSE 2023

The International Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE) 2023, held on the 29th of June 2023, marked its sixth consecutive year. Esteemed delegates from corporate and academic backgrounds, including renowned academics, research scholars, and industry experts, gathered to exchange ideas on recent innovations, emerging trends, and practical challenges in the industrial and service sectors related to smart computing and systems engineering. The conference received technical sponsorship from the IEEE Sri Lanka Section.

The event commenced with two captivating keynote speeches. Dr. Yasantha Rajakarunanayake, Vice President of Research and AI Technology at Analog Inference, California, United States, delivered an enlightening talk on "Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." This was followed by a speech on "Machine Learning for Sustainable Energy" by Prof. Saman Halgamuge from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electrical, Mechanical, and Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne, Australia. These thought-provoking keynotes set the stage for the subsequent presentations in the technical sessions.

Distinguished guests graced the occasion, including Senior Professor S.R.D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chairman of the Research Council, Senior Professor Kapila Senavirathne, Prof. Janaka Wijayanayake, Head of the Department of Industrial Management and Conference Chair, Dr. Amila Withanaarachchi. The event was further embellished by the presence of academic and non-academic staff members from the department, researchers, undergraduates from the Department of Industrial Management, and invited guests. Platinum sponsors for the conference were MAS Linea Aqua and SLT Mobitel. 

SCSE 2023 received an overwhelming response, with 193 full paper submissions from researchers representing countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, India, etc. The paper selection process was highly competitive, resulting in an acceptance rate of 29%. All fifty-six accepted full papers will be indexed in SCOPUS and added to IEEE Xplore. There were ten technical sessions after the inaugural ceremony to present papers in two tracks (smart computing and systems engineering), fostering profound discussions among the attendees.

In conjunction with SCSE 2023, the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science at the University of Kelaniya, organized two pre-conference workshops on the 27th and 28th of June 2023. The first workshop, titled "Transforming Data into Actionable Insights: PowerBI Analytics Workshop," was conducted by Ms. Hiruni Niwunhella, a lecturer at the Department of Industrial Management. The second workshop, led by Mr. Dinesh Asanka, a senior lecturer in the same department, focused on "Data-driven Decision Making: Exploring Analytics and Warehousing Strategies." These workshops witnessed active participation from university academics, data analysts, corporate executives, and graduate students, providing valuable insights into the respective topics.

SCSE 2022

The International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE), was held for the fifth consecutive time on the 1st of September, 2022. The conference brought together learned delegates from corporates and academia including leading academics, research scholars and industry experts and provided a forum to discuss recent innovations and trends as well as practical challenges encountered in the industrial and service sectors in the areas of Smart Computing and Systems Engineering. The conference was technically sponsored by IEEE Sri Lanka Section, SLASSCOM and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
Cadre Chair and Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kelaniya graced the event as the Chief Guest. Keynote addresses of the conference were delivered by Dr Nageswaran Kumaresan, Vice PresidentVice President at London Metal Exchange. His thought-provoking keynote speeches set a perfect platform for the speakers to deliver their presentations in the technical sessions afterwards.
The distinguished guests presented at the occasion were Senior Professor S.R.D. Kalingamudali, Dean, Faculty of Science, Chairman, Research Council, Prof Kapila Senavirathne, Dr. Prof. Janaka Wijayanayake, Head, Department of Industrial Management, Conference Chair, and Dr.Ruwan Wickramarachchi. Other academic and non-academic staff members of the department, researchers along with the undergraduates of the Department of Industrial Management and the invitees embellished the occasion with their courteous presence.
The conference included presentations of fifty-four papers (out of more than hundred) under two tracks, Smart Computing and Systems Engineering. Though the conference papers were presented in a virtual setting, the discussions at the presentations were thought provoking and informative and there is no doubt that the minds of all participants would have been nourished with the innovative exchanges, ideas, and words of wisdom from the learned audience.

SCSE 2021

The International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE), was held for the fourth consecutive time on the 16th of September, 2021 amidst a representative virtual gathering of research scholars, authors, academia, industry experts and invitees marking a new milestone in today’s era of digitalization. This first ever virtual conference in the history of the University of Kelaniya, was organized by the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science. The conference brought together learned delegates from corporates and academia including leading academics, research scholars and industry experts and provided a forum to discuss recent innovations and trends as well as practical challenges encountered in the industrial and service sectors in the areas of Smart Computing and Systems Engineering. The conference was technically sponsored by IEEE Sri Lanka Section, SLASSCOM and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

The distinguished guests presented at the occasion were Senior Professor S.R.D. Kalingamudali, Dean, Faculty of Science, Chairman, Research Council, Prof Kapila Senavirathne, Dr. Suren Peter, Head, Department of Industrial Management, Conference Chair, Prof. Janaka Wijayanayake and all the Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments who stood tall amidst the galore of educationists. Other academic and non-academic staff members of the department, researchers along with the undergraduates of the Department of Industrial Management and the invitees embellished the occasion with their courteous presence.

SCSE 2020

The International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE), which was held for the third consecutive time on the 24th of September, 2020 at the Department of Industrial Management marks a new milestone in today’s era of digitalization. This first ever virtual conference in the history of the University of Kelaniya, was organized by the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science. The conference brought together learned delegates from corporates and academia including leading academics, research scholars and industry experts and provided a forum to discuss recent innovations and trends as well as practical challenges encountered in the industrial and service sectors in the areas of Smart Computing and Systems Engineering. The conference was technically sponsored by IEEE Sri Lanka Section, SLASSCOM and Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics (CILT).

The distinguished guests present at the occasion were Senior Professor S.R.D. Kalingamudali, Dean, Faculty of Science, Cadre Chair and Senior Professor N.P.Sunil Chandra, Chairman, Research Council, Dr. Suren Peter, Head, Department of Industrial Management, and Dr. Dilani Wickramarachchi, Conference Chair, who stood tall amidst the galore of educationists. Other academic staff members of the department, researchers along with the undergraduates of the Department of Industrial Management and the invitees embellished the occasion with their courteous presence.

The conference included presentations of thirty six papers under three tracks, Smart Computing, Systems Engineering, and Industry Forum 1.0, which was a new track introduced for the very first time, dedicated to highlight industry issues. Though the conference papers were presented in a virtual setting, the discussions at the presentations were thought provoking and informative and there is no doubt that the minds of all participants would have been nourished with the innovative exchanges, ideas and words of wisdom from the learned audience.

SCSE 2019

The second International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE), organized by the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya in conjunction with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research, was successfully held on the 28th March, 2019, at the Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya. The conference possessed technical co-sponsorships from IEEE Sri Lanka Section and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). It also received industry partnerships from Advantis 3PL Plus and National Science Foundation (NSF). The Dean of the Faculty of Science of University of Kelaniya, Prof. (Mrs.) Bimali Jayawardena graced the conference as the Chief Guest, which was attended by an assemblage of international scholars from foreign universities including National Central University (Taiwan), Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), Western Sydney University (Australia), Tsukuba University (Japan), Yamaguchi University (Japan) and University of West Bohemia Pilsen (Czech Republic). The conference showcased research from both Sri Lankan and International researchers in the domains of Smart Computing and Systems Engineering. The keynote addresses for the conference were delivered by Prof. Chih-Lin Hu of the National Central University, Taiwan, and Prof. Athula Ginige of Western Sydney University, Australia. The Heads of Departments of Faculty of Science also attended the conference adorning the occasion. 2019 International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE) has been posted to the IEEE Xplore digital library effective 2019-09-19, and all the papers are published in the IEEE Xplore database.

SCSE 2018

The inaugural International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE), organized by the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya in conjunction with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research, was successfully held on the 29th March, 2018, at the Hotel Clarion, Kiribathgoda. The conference also had industry partnerships from the Zone 24x7, and the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA). The vice chancellor of University of Kelaniya, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe graced the conference as the chief guest, which was attended by a number of international scholars from foreign universities including Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), Tsukuba University (Japan), Yamaguchi University (Japan), Deakin University (Australia), Western Sydney University (Australia) and National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan). The conference showcased research from both Sri Lankan and international researchers in the domains of Smart Computing and Systems Engineering. The keynote addresses for the conference were delivered by Prof. Takao Terano of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Prof. Pubudu Pathirana, Director of Networked Sensing and Control (NSC) Research group at the Deakin University. The Dean of Faculty of Science, Prof. (Mrs.) B.M. Jayawardena, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Patrick Ratnayake, and Heads of Departments of Faculty of Science also attended the conference.
