Keynote Speaker
Prof. Roshan Ragel
Dr Ragel was appointed a Senior Lecturer in Computer Engineering at the University of Peradeniya in December 2007 and has been a Professor since October 2017. He has been a Professional Member of the IEEE and IEEE Computer Society since 2005 and a Senior Member since 2014. Prof Ragel has co-authored almost 200 peer-reviewed articles on Systems on Chip, the Internet of Things, Bioinformatics, Wearable Computing, and Digitisation of Local Language Text. He has won several best paper awards in conference papers, the most prolific Sri Lankan author award from Elsevier Research in 2017 and the Presidential award for scientific publication in Sri Lanka in 2018. He was also named a Top Scientist in Computer Science (CS) in Sri Lanka in 2021 and 2022 and Best Scientist in CS in the Country in 2023 by AD Scientific Index. He is recognised as a Tier 4* awardee by the University of Peradeniya for Research Excellence under the Transparent Research Performance Scheme introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) Sri Lanka. He was a visiting research scholar at the UNSW – Sydney, QUT – Brisbane, UIUC – Illinois and ANU – Canberra.
Prof. Antonija (Tanja) Mitrovic
Prof. Antonija (Tanja) Mitrovic is a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. She is the leader of ICTG (Intelligent Computer Tutoring Group). She is an associate editor of the following journals: Practice in Technology Enhanced Learning (RPTEL), International Journal on Artificial Intelligence in Education (IJAIED) and Journal of Universal Computer Science (JUCS). She is a Distinguished member of ACM, and senior member of AAAI and IEEE. She was awarded the Distinguished Researcher Award in 2011 by the Asia Pacific Society for Computers in Education (APSCE).
Prof. Mitrovic’s primary research interests are in student modeling. ICTG has developed a number of constraint-based intelligent tutoring systems in a variety of domains, which have been thoroughly evaluated in real classrooms, and proven to be highly effective. These systems provide adaptive support for acquiring both problem-solving skills and meta-cognitive skills. Although most of the ITSs developed by ICTG support students learning individually in areas such as database querying (SQL-Tutor), database design (EER-Tutor and ERM-Tutor), data normalization (NORMIT), there are also constraint-based tutors for object-oriented software design and collaborative skills, various engineering topics (thermodynamics, mechanics), training to interpret medical images and language-learning. ICTG has also developed ASPIRE, a full authoring and deployment environment for constraint-based tutors. Her recent research focuses on AI-based support for active learning from videos, using the AVW-Space platform.
