“Sustainable Humanities; what lies ahead”

Professor Maithree Wickramasinghe is the Chair professor in English language at University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka. She earned her PHD from university of London and her MA from university of Colombo and her BA from university of London.  Her main research interests are in the fields of Humanities, Sri Lankan women’s poetry, gender research evaluation, gender mainstreaming higher education, women and gender development. She was the founding director, center for gender studies ant university of Kelaniya and she was the head of the English department in university of Kelaniya(2011-2014). She's also a Visiting Professor at the University of Sussex and an Honorary Professor at the University of Wolverhampton, UK. With over thirty years of experience, she's an expert in gender equity and equality policies, training, and program evaluation for organizations like the ILO, UNFPA, and UNESCO. She is the author of From Theory to Action - Women, Gender and Development and was an Associate Editor of the Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia on Gender and Sexuality Studies. Other work includes an influential training module, An Introduction to Gender Mainstreaming Universities. Professor Wickramasinghe is a Champion for the Commonwealth Secretariat's ‘Say No More Campaign’ and serves on various university boards, including the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh.
