Dr. Chandan Vishwakarma is a distinguished tabla artist and Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Instrumental Music, Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. An “A” grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, Dr. Vishwakarma has established himself as a prominent figure in the field of Indian classical percussion, combining scholarly depth with dynamic stage presence. He completed his Ph.D. in Tabla from Banaras Hindu University under the guidance of Prof. Pravin Uddhav, with earlier academic distinctions including a Gold Medal in B.Music and First Division with Distinction in both B.Music and M.Music from BHU.

Trained rigorously in the art of tabla, Dr. Vishwakarma has performed extensively across India and abroad, including in countries such as Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, and Poland. His participation in major national and international festivals such as Ganga Mahotsav, Saifai Mahotsav, Sangeet Sankalp, and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has garnered widespread appreciation. His solo and collaborative performances with renowned maestros have showcased the richness of Indian rhythm traditions to diverse audiences.

Dr. Vishwakarma's contributions go beyond performance. He is a dedicated scholar with numerous research publications in reputed journals and edited volumes. His academic work includes in-depth explorations of rhythm (tala), gharana traditions, and pedagogical innovations in music education. He has presented papers at various national and international seminars and has been invited as a guest speaker and jury member at academic and cultural events across the country.

A recipient of multiple prestigious awards including the Taal Mani Award, Laya Sadhak Samman, and the Junior Research Fellowship from UGC, Dr. Vishwakarma is also recognized for his service to the academic and cultural community. His dedication to the preservation and propagation of Indian classical music continues through teaching, research, and performances, making him a vital contributor to the contemporary musical landscape.
