The Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya is organizing the 2nd International Conference on the Humanities 2016, under the theme “New Directions in the Humanities: Our Engagement with the Environment”. The conference will be held on the 06th and 07th October at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya.

In keeping with the trend of Environmental Humanities, the conference enables researchers from the humanities-related disciplines to engage with the environment. Environmental Humanities is an interdisciplinary area of international research and teaching that addresses contemporary environmental challenges in a way that is historically, philosophically, spiritually, culturally, aesthetically and linguistically informed. As interdisciplinary research becomes increasingly popular, this conference seeks to bring together researchers interested in scholarship that draws humanities disciplines into conversation with each other, and with the natural and social sciences.

Abstracts of not more than 300 words are invited in the diverse areas of the humanities and their engagement with the environment, including (but not restricted to) religion and spirituality, language and linguistics, literary studies, gender studies and cultural studies, the performing and image arts.
